Collagen Peptides & Joint Comfort

Meta-analysis found collagen supplementation reduced osteoarthritis symptom scores

A meta-analysis of randomized placebo-controlled trials found that oral collagen supplementation significantly reduced total WOMAC index scores and pain-scale (VAS) scores in people with osteoarthritis, with a significant improvement specifically in the joint-stiffness subscore.

Vitamin D3, Calcium & Fracture Prevention

Vitamin D3 plus calcium reduced hip fracture risk in a meta-analysis of older adults

A systematic review and meta-analysis of seven randomized trials (over 12,000 participants) found that daily oral vitamin D3 plus calcium supplementation reduced the odds of hip fracture and non-vertebral fracture in people over 65, with an 800 IU vitamin D3 plus 1,200mg calcium regimen showing the largest effect.

Vitamin D3, Calcium & Fracture Prevention

Cochrane review: vitamin D plus calcium, not vitamin D alone, reduced fracture risk

A Cochrane review of 53 trials (over 91,000 participants) found that vitamin D combined with calcium produced a small but significant reduction in hip and any-type fracture risk in postmenopausal women and older men, while vitamin D taken alone was not shown to reduce fracture risk at the doses tested.

Cochrane Review
Avenell et al., Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (2014)
Vitamin D3, Calcium & Fracture Prevention

Meta-analysis found modest bone density benefit from vitamin D supplements alone

A systematic review and meta-analysis of 23 randomized trials (over 4,000 participants) found vitamin D supplementation alone produced only a small bone-density benefit at the femoral neck and no significant effect at other sites, underscoring that vitamin D's benefit for bone is best supported when combined with calcium rather than used alone.

Meta-analysis
Reid et al., The Lancet (2013)
Vitamin K2 (MK-7) & Bone Mineral Density

Three years of low-dose MK-7 slowed bone density loss in postmenopausal women

A randomized, placebo-controlled trial in 244 healthy postmenopausal women found that three years of daily low-dose vitamin K2 (MK-7, 180mcg) significantly improved vitamin K status and decreased the age-related decline in bone mineral density and bone strength at the spine and femoral neck compared to placebo.

Human RCT
Knapen et al., Osteoporosis International (2013)
Vitamin K2 (MK-7) & Bone Mineral Density

MK-7 preserved trabecular bone microarchitecture at the tibia

A randomized, double-blind trial in 148 postmenopausal women with osteopenia (all also supplemented with calcium and vitamin D) found that 12 months of MK-7 preserved trabecular bone number and thickness at the tibia on high-resolution imaging, while the placebo group showed age-related deterioration of bone microarchitecture.

Human RCT
Rønn et al., European Journal of Endocrinology (2016)
Vitamin K2 (MK-7) & Bone Mineral Density

A 90mcg/day dose of vitamin K2 reduced femoral neck bone loss

Vitamin K2 & Arterial Health

Long-term MK-7 improved arterial stiffness in healthy postmenopausal women
